About RASC Ottawa,
Your Gateway to the Galaxy... and Beyond !
Members of Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) centre in Ottawa are astronomy enthusiasts sharing their knowledge and passion through our variety of services, activities, and connections to some of the finest minds in this Universe.
The whole idea is to inspire curiosity and increase understanding of the universe through education, public outreach, and support for astronomical research. RASC strives to be the leading organization in Canada for amateur and professional astronomers.
We're fairly sure that reasonable ways to do this are by sharing knowledge and experience, collaborating and fostering fellowship, enriching our community by embracing diversity, and promoting discovery through the scientific method.
So we do that quite a bit. Here's how:
The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada Ottawa Centre has been serving astronomers in the National Capital Region since 1906.
1868-12-01 Toronto Astronomical Club started
1903 Royal Astronomical Society of Canada
1906-12-20 First organizational meeting in Ottawa
1907-01-26 First regular meeting
1977-08-26 Provincial Incorporation
2024 Our 118th year!
We are a volunteer-run not-for-profit charity serving over 400 members across all age brackets and levels of knowledge. We welcome newcomers, whether as complete novices or as seasoned and experienced observers.
We organize each year many public outreach events each including school visits, meeting with youth groups, hosting public star parties in the summer, and celebrating International Astronomy Day each May.
