RASC Ottawa Awards

Members of RASC Ottawa receive awards at each Annual Dinner Meeting recognizing outstanding contributions to RASC’s mission of enhancing understanding of and inspiring curiosity about the Universe, through public outreach, education, and support for astronomical research. Members may be recognized for their efforts to promote:

  • Sharing of knowledge and experience
  • Collaboration and fellowship
  • Enrichment of our community through diversity, and
  • Discovery through the scientific method.

RASC National have their own award system which recognizes work Canada-wide. RASC Ottawa’s awards reflect this structure but with a local flavour. Our awards are:

Those are the members who have been anointed with RASC Ottawa's recognition for things. These nature of those things have varied over time as new technologies have reached the amateur astronomer consumer market, and the roles and capabilities of amateurs has evolved, such in areas like comet and asteroid discovery, variable star observing, and occultation timings.
